How to Add Custom Fields

You can create a custom field on TIEIT if you wish to include any fields that are not included as a predefined field on TIEIT. For example, you can add a field to note information like company employee size. Custom fields can be visible in forms and CRM listing pages.

To learn how you can add a custom field, please follow the steps below.

1. Log in to your TIEIT account and click your user icon located on the top right section of the page. Click the Settings button.

2. On the Company Settings section on the left, click the Custom Fields tab. Click the green + Custom Field button on the top right section. Please note that if you do not see Custom Fields on your account, the owner of your organization’s TIEIT account will need to add this option for you in their Company settings by clicking the RBAC tab on their account to make any modifications.

3. Select the field type and enter the details of the field. In the section on the right, select where you would like this field to be available. Click the blue save button.

Note: To avoid unnecessary fields in other areas on TIEIT, only select the areas you want to see the data. For example, if you want to add a form custom field and need to only see this information on a contact’s detail page and the form, select only Contacts and Forms.

Types of Custom Fields You Can Create

Text Fields

  • Text - This allows only a limited amount of characters to be entered in the text box. The maximum number of characters can range from 9 to 255.
  • Description/Paragraph Box - This text box allows for a larger amount of characters to be entered in a field. The maximum number of characters can range from 1,000 to 32,000.

Multiple Choice Fields

  • Multiple Choice - This option allows for multiple answers to be selected by checking off a check box. It is a good option if you have a small number of options.
  • Multi-select Dropdown -  This option allows for multiple answers to be selected. This is a good option if you have many options for users or form submitters to select from as the multiple choice option can look congested in a form.

Other Fields

  • Number -You can select the number of decimal places, maximum number and length that a user or form submitter can enter in this field.
  • Date - Select from a calendar option or date input.
  • Dropdown - Only one answer can be selected with this option.
  • Radio Button - Only one answer can be selected with this option.
  • File Field - Only one file can be uploaded for each file field.

Tips

When creating custom fields for forms, please ensure the following are followed:

Before creating a new field, check if a similar field exists. Sometimes, a field may be labelled something else but could contain or request the same information. Having multiple fields that are similar, could cause confusion for you and your team in the future and retrieving data can become complicated if similar data is mapped to different fields.

In the example below, the client has the field label “What’s your first name?”. In the form, this field should be the standard Contact First Name field. What can be done here is to select the standard first name field so it maps to TIEIT and change the label at the form level to change the text of the question. The label can be changed by clicking the edit button that appears when you are on the edit page of a form.

Always consider how the data should map back into TIEIT.

If you need to include characters such as a colon (:) or number to a question, for the label name, do not add that as part of the custom field name. Add the colon (:) or number at the form field label level.

The label can be changed by clicking the edit button that appears when you are on the edit page of a form.

When creating a custom field, do not make it a required field unless it is essential not only at a form level. When a custom field is marked as required and the custom field is available in other areas of TIEIT like a contact detail page, that field must always have data in order to update the Additional Info area of a contact detail page. If a field needs to be required only at a form level, please only specify that on a form level.

To make a question required on a form level, click the edit button that appears when you hover over a field in the form edit page.
