Control Which Fields Are Pre-Filled with SmartFill
Overview
TIEIT’s SmartFill feature automatically pre-fills form fields using existing contact data based on the email address provided. While this helps reduce duplicate data entry, there may be cases where you don’t want certain fields to be filled in automatically—especially when the same field is used across multiple forms for different purposes.
To help with this, you can now choose specific fields to skip from SmartFill. This ensures that only relevant information is carried forward, giving you greater control over how data is reused.
What’s in this article
When and why to skip fields from SmartFill
If you use the same custom field (e.g., Comments, Notes, or Preferences) across different forms, SmartFill may pull in values from previous form submissions—even if that data isn’t relevant to the current form.
For example:
A contact submits Form #1 with a note in the Comments field. Later, when filling out Form #2, the same Comments field gets auto-filled with the earlier note, which may not apply.
In these cases, skipping certain fields from SmartFill prevents outdated or irrelevant data from being reused automatically.
How to configure field-level skip settings
You can configure this setting on any form where SmartFill is enabled.

To skip fields from SmartFill:
- Go to the Forms module
- Navigate to the form you want to update.
- On the form’s edit page, scroll to the bottom and click the Settings button.
- Make sure the “SmartFill” option is enabled
- Confirm that the SmartFill checkbox is checked for the form. This setting must be enabled for the field-level skip options to work.
- Choose fields to skip
- In the section titled Choose fields to be Skipped from Pre-fill Method, click the Choose fields dropdown.
- Select one or more fields you want to exclude from auto-filling.
- Save your changes
- Click Save & Close to apply the update.
Things to keep in mind
- This setting only affects the fields you choose. All other fields will still use SmartFill as expected.
- Skipping a field means that even if prior data exists for that field, it won’t be automatically filled in during a new submission.
- The skip setting is configured per form and doesn’t affect how the field behaves in other forms.
